" Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing left to
add, but
when there is nothing left to remove.” —Antoine de
Saint-Exupery
Scott Ernst Custom Woodworks (SECW) offers its clients a
dynamic design process and experience. Subtlety,
simplicity, beauty and elegance are the vehicles for
creating a piece of work that is a portrait of the client.
Through an intuitive sense of design and function, custom
one-of-a-kind pieces emerge, which meet the needs, purpose
and dreams of the client.
Revolutionary Ideas, Evolutionary Design
SECW specializes in marrying a client’s vision and desires
with Scott’s artistic skills, design sensibilities and
technical abilities. The process is inventive, synergistic
and evolutionary. Scott’s intuition and experience can be
relied on to guide and lead, to the extent that the client
wants or needs it.
Clients come with the hint of an idea. Or they come with
fully formed ideas and drawings. In both cases, the client
is an integral part of the design. And in all cases,
clients leave with custom, heirloom-quality pieces that are
sculptural in their design, subtle in their beauty and
functional in their form.
So How Does It Work?
Step One: Communication
Communication is the core of SECW’s design. The process
begins with conversations that allow Scott to understand
the client’s desires, the function, the space and the
design aesthetic or direction. Color palette, materials,
form, proportions are all explored and carefully
considered.
Step Two: Design Sketches
This step offers the client the opportunity to ensure that
their desires have been effectively heard and accurately
reflected. It invites deeper engagement in the design’s
improvisational dance. There is opportunity to explore,
take risks, expand boundaries and sculpt away excess.
Step Three: The Concept
In this stage of the design process, sketches are finalized
and worked up into a final design concept. A bid is
prepared and the client can suggest necessary changes and
make decisions about how to proceed.
Step Four: Final Drafts and Models
If necessary, full-scale final drawings or models are
created to assist in the visualization. Price, timeline and
delivery dates are determined at this stage for the
client’s final approval.
